Hey Friends,
Although you are probably reading this on Saturday, this was actually from Friday, as we did not have wireless internet Friday night, so here is Friday's blog.... we are off to Mammoth Cave this afternoon, will share that tonight.

We certainly drove on some roads less traveled today!  Caught up with Highway 27 in Chattanooga, crossed the Tennessee River and Lake Chickamauga and proceeded north through some really pretty small mountainous, rolling hills.
We passed through towns like Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and Pine Knot , KY.  Check out the picture of the church where we stopped to stretch and walk the dogs… I believe it must have been a Rite Aid or something like that!

But let me digress a moment to last night…. It rained a lot in Cartersville….hard, for several hours meaning I didn’t sleep. Read and played solitaire til 3 a.m….. while Bill was snoozing away. Thank goodness we have separate sleeping arrangements or we would kill each other.  I also was thinking about the two families camping in tents right behind us!! UGH…. So I tried to stay awake today so that maybe sleep will find me tonight.
A few things about this area of Tennessee we drove through…. Lots of beautiful Queen Anne’s lace and another blue/purple flower that I couldn’t identify on the roadside.  Then there were lots of mobile homes and junk cars, seems  to be a poor area of the state. This pretty road however did not have any roadside parks, so we had our picnic lunch in a church parking lot. Good thing there are lots of churches with big parking lots!!

The last big town we went through Somerset, KY had an interesting traffic concept.  Each intersection of Hwy 27 and the crossroad were numbered, and we went through all 20 of them. It’s a pretty big town, it’s also the Capital of Car Cruising, bet you didn’t know that! From there we jumped on the Cumberland Parkway and proceeded to Russell Springs, Kentucky, Which sounds easy, but alas, it was not!!  Mr. Garmin got confused, but thank goodness Gene did not! So we winded through some gorgeous farmland where the corn was so green and healthy looking, unlike a lot of the corn in Georgia. And finally arrived to a nice little campground located near Lake Cumberland, wherever that is!
See the little sign between the traffic lights, it's the number of the intersection.

Buddy and Halle continue to get along so well! You just don’t know how I was worried that Halle would be such a bully and make everyone’s lives miserable, but so far so good!
Off to fix a little supper, grilled veggies, chicken and wild rice casserole (brought from home) and white acre peas!
Happy camping,
Carla
